EQUIP Families hosts sessions for families with children grades K-12 and supports parents in their role as primary teachers of the faith to their children. Families will participate in a monthly on-campus offering centered on revolving topics, in age-appropriate tracks. Particularly in the parent session, not only will the central theme be presented, but also practical tools and resources will be shared to help parents live out and lead their family in our Catholic faith. Away from campus, families will be provided with family and individual activities and thought-provoking reflections to build upon the monthly on-campus session. EQUIP Families is offered year-round.
- More on EQUIP Families
“Our call by God is to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. However, to be an effective disciple we have to be equipped with the tools and knowledge to be able to live the life given to us by God. At baptism, parents make promises to raise their children in the practice of the faith. The Church also sees parents as the primary teachers in the ways of faith. Because of this calling, I truly believe that we need to equip parents to fulfill this responsibility and calling. This has become our goal, providing opportunities for the family, to equip and journey with parents on this awesome mission of forming children to be disciples of Jesus Christ. I know that this will be all new to us; but I truly believe that this new approach will be life giving and benefit the entire Catholic family of Prince of Peace.”
When parents present their child for Baptism they take on a beautiful responsibility of passing on the Christian faith, “You have asked to have your child baptized. In doing so you are accepting the responsibility of training him (her) in the practice of the faith. It will be your duty to bring him (her) up to keep God’s commandments as Christ taught us, by loving God and our neighbor. Do you clearly understand what you are undertaking?”
As a parish we want to do our best job of supporting parents in their efforts to be the primary teachers (catechists) of the faith. Instead of cramming in lots of information in a weekly class geared toward young people, what if parents were brought together as a community and equipped to discuss, promote and experience the faith within their family?
EQUIP Families puts an emphasis on families Encountering Christ together, Equipping parents to live out, discuss and lead their family in the faith and Empowering parents to become the spiritual leaders.
EQUIP Families is a partnership between parents and the parish. EQUIP Families empowers the parents to be the primary educators of faith in their family; giving parents practical advice, resources and tools to dive into their faith together. Families may be at different places in their spiritual journeys; therefore, our goal is to provide an opportunity for every family to grow in their knowledge of the faith by providing dynamic content that can be presented and discussed at home. The first step in participating in EQUIP Families is completion of ALPHA. Upon completion of ALPHA families will roll into EQUIP Families . To learn more about Alpha, click here. EQUIP is our way at Prince of Peace of Equipping families, adults and our youth to Live as Disciples. We are looking for people to assist in many areas of EQUIP to ensure that participants get a meaningful and enjoyable experience.
An EQUIP Volunteer is someone who has experienced Alpha and is on The Way, constantly rediscovering their own personal faith journey. These folks have a passion for the faith and the desire to walk alongside others in their discovery of the faith. Volunteers are people of prayer who regularly call upon the Holy Spirit to be the source of strength and guidance for all participants in EQUIP.
Those willing to assist with EQUIP may do so by signing up through our volunteer portal, click here!
